Studio 60

So last week I stumbled upon this article in Broadcasting & Cable about how NBC was about to shelve Studio 60

NBC pushed up the premiere date of The Black Donnellys to Monday February 26 at 10 p.m., sending Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip to the bench even earlier than planned

For those of you who are not in television, getting shelved is more than likely one step away from being canceled. Especially since we’re in the February ratings period right now. It’s unfortunate that a show like this has to be cancelled. It’s a very good show, but it’s on a network with about 3 hit shows. I think that if NBC were to find another slot for it (I believe it’s up against a CSI and I think Boston Legal), it would do well, but it’s the reality in television that if you don’t do well in the first few weeks, you’re done for. It’s honestly a miracle that NBC has let the show go as far as it has, given that there were shows that other networks (namely Fox) canned with-in 1 or 2 episodes.

Now.. With that said, does anyone else who watched tonight’s show think that they may have been poking fun at themselves? I would post some quotes from the show to back this up, but I don’t want to give any spoilers. Let’s just suffice to say the part in question has to do with the ratings of the fictionalStudio 60 On the Sunset Strip.

Now.. Here’s my plea, which of course will go unheard to the network executives, NBC please don’t cancel Studio 60. Whether you need to move it to another time slot, or move it to USA, Bravo, or any of your other cable networks, don’t take away a very, very good television show.
